Second Grade News: May 22-26, 2017

Reading: This week our weekly theme is “Our Heroes” and the essential question is “What do heroes do?” We are studying community heroes such as police and firefighters, and are also learning about heroes in history. Some examples of these heroes in history are: Martin Luther King Jr., Abraham Lincoln, Rosa Parks, Cesar Chavez, etc.

Spelling:  We are finished with Spelling tests for the year but are still working on the phonics skills and words in class. You may also work on them at home even though they will not be tested.

High Frequency Words (sight words):  By the end of the unit, your child should be able to read these words quickly and easily. Please post this letter in a handy spot (on the fridge, etc.) and have your child practice reading through these words a couple of times each day.

Vocabulary: We are learning the meaning of these words. Please use these words in conversation with your child and ask him/her to tell you what they mean.

Today was our last day of Library. If your child still has library books at home, please send them in tomorrow.

This Friday is Fun to be Fit. You are invited to walk (or run) the track with us at 1:30. Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately and has shoes that are good for running. Although they may bring a water bottle (plain water only), we will keep them in the classroom for afterwards since the event is only a half hour long.
